Artist Statement
Welcome. My name is Amir Hamza Amir, but I’ve painted as Amir Batik ever since the technique captured my heart. I’m a proud artist based in Zanzibar - Tanzania, and my art is the story of my life’s passion.
My journey began with a natural love for creation, which I nurtured myself through every workshop, course, and online tutorial I could find. In 1986, I discovered batik—the art of painting with wax and dyes—and it truly named me as an artist. By 1989, I was working professionally, exploring a world of techniques from detailed pencil portraits to bold contemporary styles.
Now, I’m pouring my decades of experience into a powerful new medium: fluid art. It feels like a homecoming to pure expression. With each pour, I craft emotional and conceptual narratives in a way that feels utterly free and authentic. This is my latest beginning, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.

But for me, fire isn't just about destruction. It's a powerful transformer. It purifies. It clears the way for something new to grow. That tension between chaos and renewal is the real heart of this piece.
I hope it makes people talk. What are we letting the fire consume? And what could we possibly build from the ashes if we're brave enough? With all its texture and movement, this painting is meant to be both a warning and a promise: that even in the worst chaos, the potential for creation is still alive.
